I am responding to lauraw877’s blog post real or fake…you tell me.
I am responding to Laura’s blog because I completely agree with her. It is so hard to find a true friend today. I have a very tight knit group of about six girls that I have been friends with forever. I know that I will always have these friends and they are true and honest to me. I must admit it is very difficult to find a sincere girl friend. I have been around plenty of girls who are nice to your face, and the minute you turn your back they cannot wait to say horrible things about you. What is the point? Why do girls feel the need to talk trash about other girls? I believe that we express our insecurities by talking about others. Somehow it makes girls feel better about themselves to talk about others. I do not believe I am a fake person; I try to be nice to everyone unless they have done something mean to me. I think it is pointless to pretend to like someone when you really do not. Girls today need to stop being fake. Everyone is insecure in some way or another, but when you begin to take those insecurities out on someone else that is when problems can arise. Give everyone at least one shot before you start to talk bad about them. Learn how to control your insecurities, rather than take them out on someone else.

Leaving the comfort of your own bed room to go live with complete strangers can be a major challenge. College has its share of changes but definitely one of the biggest changes is living with a complete stranger, your new roommate. I am currently living in a quad with three other girls, somehow we have a found a way to make it work. Of course, there are occasional problem, but we are able to work through them. However, I do have many friends who cannot stand their roommates. A lot of my friends explain to me that they stay out of their rooms as much as possible. It can be an extremely difficult feeling to not even feel comfortable if your own bed room. This may seem a little unrealistic to say, but I believe that if someone really feels uncomfortable with the person they are living with then they should have options. Switching roommates should be easier than it currently it. Recently, in the news there has been the story of Meredith Kercher who was killed by her roommate and the roommate’s boyfriend. (Read more at http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/europe/article2821154.ece) This is an extremely unfortunate story about a girl who was brutally murdered. The point is it is very difficult to live with someone you barely know. Having to live with complete strangers does not only happen at college. It is also very prominent at prisons and hospitals. I believe that no one should be subjected to living with a stranger is they are not comfortable with it.

What is it that makes the ever so popular website facebook so addicting? According to Dictionary.com facebook is “a publication for an organization, such as a school or business, which helps members identify each other; also, an online version of this, with profiles including a picture, name, birthdates, interests, etc.” But facebook is much more than that. It can turn, very quickly, from a profile that gets checked every now and then to a serious addiction. I find myself checking my facebook web page whenever I am near a computer, and I know I am not alone. Facebook is a great tool for networking, but when people start doing more living online that off it that is when problems and possible addictions arise. I sometimes catch myself thinking about facebook even when I am not on a computer. Facebook is also a serious distraction, which sometimes becomes more time consuming that important things like homework. Facebook allows you to know personal things about complete strangers. Just by clicking through pictures, reading walls posts, or skimming ones status updates it is possible to know so much about a person you have never formally met. In some ways I believe that things like facebook are crippling our social skills. When you can learn so much about a person through an online data base what is the point of going out of you way to actually meet new people? I think that some people feel comfort with the shield of their computer screen. In my personal opinion, everyone (including myself) needs to take a break from their online lives and go outside and really start living!

I read Carpedessert’s Blog and I think it is crazy the way that the Gosselin family has allowed the media to publicly portray their lives and failed marriage.
Of course we have all tuned in at one point or another to the very popular TLC reality show, Jon and Kate Plus 8. I was never a huge fan of the show. If I was flipping through channels and stumbled across an episode, then I would tune in for a few minutes but I was never an avid follower. When the show first started I found it strange that these people gained fame just because they had a large family. Don’t get me wrong, it was remarkable to see all the hard work and effort it took to take care of eight children but it always seemed strange to me that this family was having their lives and the lives of their children filmed. Maybe this doesn’t apply to the Gosselin children, but I if it were me in their position I would not want a camera crew following me around my house. How are these kids going to feel when they are older to know that millions of viewers watched their every tantrum?
For me, the most disturbing aspect of the Jon and Kate saga is how public Jon’s recent affair and the couples divorce has become. Affairs and divorce happen everyday to ordinary people, but when something like this happens in the lives of “celebrities” it is blown out of proportion and shown in the tabloids until the paparazzi find someone else’s problems to broadcast. How are the Gosselin children supposed to feel that their father is no longer part of the TV show that has become their lives. In a way, the viewers and the children are pitted against Jon with the upcoming premier of Kate plus 8. It seems as though some of the most popular shows and bestselling magazines are exposing other peoples problems, I think that our current society needs to rethink its idea of entertainment.

Last Tuesday I had the pleasure of going to Fenway Park to watch my favorite team, The Red Sox. They faced off against the Toronto Blue Jays. I have been to many Red Sox games before, but none like this one. Due to Boston traffic I missed the first two inning, when I finally arrived the score was already eight to two and The Blue Jays were ahead. The score remained eight to two for the majority of the game. I was bummed to say the least, but that’s when I realized the entire crowd shared the same facial expression. Somber faces filled the stands as they lost hope in their home team. But the seventh inning was right around the corner, and no one expected what was going to happen next. The Sox scored four runs. The score was now eight to seven. It was in this moment i truly realized the meaning of “Red Sox Nation.” Run after run the crowd went wild. I have never been anywhere that had such an intense energy level, the crowd was out of control. Everyone was out of their seats, jumping and screaming like a pack of animals. Indiviuality was lost, each person acted as one crazy mob, pleading with their team to bring in the win. despite all the cheering the score remained eight to seven and in the end The Blue jays left with the win. Even though The Red Sox didn’t win it was the best game I have ever been to. This game made me realize the true dedication and love that these fans have for their team. On the walk out of the park I didn’t see many disappointed Sox fans, everyone in sight just kept raving about the seventh inning and it made me ask myself, who has better fans than The Red Sox?
